I suggest adding a Contact Code field in the additional contact section for vendors. I would like to use it to manage a customer2business2subcontactor relation. I need an id that is much shorter than the name of the contact. This could be as small as 6 characters

The Vendor Code field on the Vendor Add/Update screen is designed for this purpose. See the Help Icon in the footer of the Vendor Add/Update screen for additional information.
